The first step is going to a licensed skin care Aesthetician. An Aesthetician is highly trained in the care of the skin and is state board certified in analyzing the skin and to advise you on what to use for your specific skin type. Many Aestheticians work with Dermatologist offering facials and specialized skin treatments in their offices. Most Dermatologist do not provide skin care programs, they supply skin treatments such as medications. Below are some skin care options to consider adding to your daily routine.

Facial Cleansers:

You want to avoid the “one-size-fits-all” skin cleansers. If you have dry skin use a cleanser that will help nourish, protect, and re-moisturize the skin. If you have oily skin use a cleanser that will help balance the oil production and reduce acne. For sensitive skin, use a cleanser that does not have herbs or a scent, but that deep cleans the surface and eliminates skin irritations.

Facial Toners:

Face toners are essential for beautiful skin. They help the moisturizers work better, bringing the skin back to its natural PH balance, and help remove residue left over from make-up. A good toner will also help exfoliate the skin and re-texture the surface of the skin so the complexion is firm and smooth.

Eye Creams:

Eye creams are essential to avoid pre-mature aging and wrinkles and one that is specifically made for the eye area. The skin around the eye is very thin and delicate and must be treated differently than the rest of the face. You cannot use face moisturizers around the eye area because they are too thick and will not moisturize or hydrate.

Face Creams:

When it comes to face cream you need to have guidance and find a cream that is best for your skin type. There are so many face creams on the market today, and some can get really expensive, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a great skin cream, but you need the right cream to work for your specific skins needs. Look for creams with vitamins and peptides in them. Research has shown when applying peptides with anti-oxidants and vitamins will reduce fine lines, firm the skin and stop the formation of wrinkles.

You may have sensitive skin if…

Sensitive 101 

Many girls with acne do not realize that they have sensitive skin. Using potent acne products can actually make the skin irritated and it tends to break out more. The skin thinks it needs to produce more oil when using intense drying ingredients. You need to treat the skin with delicate sensitive products to help balance the oils, avoiding irritation. Your best bet is to try a formula labeled “sensitive skin” with no fragrance. Instead of using harsh alcohol-based products, use products that contain Witch Hazel. Witch Hazel kills the pathogenic bacteria that cause you to break out and will work in the same way as alcohol based product while being gentler on the skin. 

Dryness: How to Heal 

Another factor that can make the face feel sensitive is dryness, especially this time of year. In the fall, the temperature drops practically overnight, heaters go on, the light changes- it’s a whole new environment that can really exacerbate sensitive skin. In lower humidity you lose your skin’s bubble wrap, which are the lipids that make up its protective barrier. Your skin is more likely to crack and leave small nerve endings exposed during this time. These are the reasons you feel itching, tingling or tightening of the skin. This is the time to step up your moisturizer to a more sophisticated one. We have many concealers and colors to choose from. We analyze your skin tones and apply a concealer that goes with your skin color. If you choose too dark of a concealer you can end up looking older than intended; however choosing too light of a concealer has unpleasant effects as well. Choosing the correct shade is vital.

4^th Foundation:

Whether you need a little coverage or you want to smooth imperfections in your complexion, we have many foundations to choose from. Our most popular foundation is our Custom Blend. We will professionally blend our Custom Foundation to match your skin tone exactly. After applying foundation we gently apply a silky Mica Powder (Not Mineral) to set the make-up on your skin. With the changing seasons I always look forward to the new color palates. It’s a way to have a fresh new start and exciting to try some new colors. Exfoliate
For smooth skin you can achieve this by simply exfoliating the skin with a good and aggressive scrub every day. Some women think that using a scrub will dry the skin, but quite the opposite. Using exfoliants everyday will help take off the top layer of skin that is dry. The moisturizer you apply to the skin after exfoliation will be able to penetrate deeper into the skin. Microderm abrasion is popular but you can achieve the same effect by exfoliating every day. So save your $.

Glycolic Creams
Using a Glycolic Acid cream will dramatically smooth the surface of the skin. Using a nightly treatment of a cream that has 8% Glycolic Acid, will help smooth the surface of the skin and fine lines too. Apply to clean skin nightly for two months, stop for one month. Taking a break from Glycolic Acid Cream will allow the skin to heal. You must allow the skin to heal for optimum cell renewal. Too many chemicals applied to the skin can cause skin to thin and look older than it is. Scientifically researched, Glycolic Acid is in fact one of the safest smoothing products on the market. I have seen incredible results with Glycolic Acid. An even skin tone, a smoother youthful skin and less noticeable fine lines.

Bronzers
Another way to achieve a beautiful and natural glow to your complexion is a good bronzer. Bronzers come in all different forms. As we sip our delicious tea and espressos and share the most wonderful Nutella crepe, I notice Europeans love their scarves – both men and women – and on this particular dreamy day, every scarf we see has a pop of color: orange polka dots, wasabi greens, bright yellows and a lot of stripes of every hue. RED is the color choice of the season in Paris and by no mistake women everywhere I see are wearing red lipstick. Every skin tone color, young and the wiser, are sporting the boldness of red. I love the natural reds, the blushing reds and just the plain drop-dead-gorgeous matte shades. Three women come in to the café where we are musing and all three are sporting fabulous red lips. Another stand out is blue eye shadow Lovely tones of blue eye shadow colors shimmer across our path in all corners of Paris. Combined with the red lips, it is a very interesting look, and it reminds me of the 1930’s style, but much more modern. I would call it a modern vintage style with a twist of retro.

We say our goodbyes and merci’s to our waiter friends at the café and walk down the street to the Metro to find Train six to go to Printemps and Galeries Lafayette: a shopping paradise in France and a sure shop-until-you-drop wonderland. We get lost in the perfume and cosmetic land, and we have only seen the first floor of the Galeries Lafayette. We are in cosmetic heaven!

Not all women can where red lipstick or blue eye shadow, nor do they feel comfortable wearing such a strong and bold trend. We all like to soak up the sun and sit on the beach, but in reality, the truth hurts – or in this case – burns. Skin does age faster if you overdo it in the sun. We all know this by now and use sunscreens if we are out in the sun for long periods of time. But what does the sun really do to our skin when we are exposed to it for extended periods of time?

One of the questions my clients ask most often is, “Does the skin on the face age faster than the skin on the rest of the body?” It appears to, and the reality is, it is the way we treat our skin – not the aging process, that “ages” facial skin most.

Scientists explain it this way: There are two types of aging, intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic (internal) aging is the rate of aging that occurs with the passage of time. Extrinsic (external) aging is intrinsic aging compounded by external causes such as sunlight, air pollution, and inflammation caused by harsh cleansers, rough treatments, hard water, and disease processes. Compounding extrinsic damage is basically the notion that, with age, your body’s ability to repair itself slows considerably. Children’s and teenager’s cells can repair themselves nearly perfectly from damage, but from age 20 to age 50 and beyond, the aging process begins to accelerate, because we no longer have this similar ability for perfect repair.

So when you are soaking up the rays of the sun and your skin gets inflamed or sunburned, it is very hard for the skin to repair itself. We see cellular damage in the form of wrinkles, sunspots and sagging skin. You do not see the aging process right away, but when you reach your forties and fifties, you will see visible signs of aging to the surface of the skin.

ANTIOXIDANTS TO THE RESCUE
Happily, our skin has allies in its constant fight against free-radical damage. With technologies in highly advanced skin care, scientists have discovered certain nutrients like antioxidants (a group that includes Vitamin C, amino acids, DMAE and Co-enzymes) that can stop or even reverse free-radical damage caused by too much sun. They will help heal and repair a good deal of the damage. The best advice I can give you is if you want to look tan, buy a great, natural-looking, gradual self tanner.
