The 1,251 gingerbread houses displayed at the New York Hall of Science in 2017 holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest gingerbread village, but the people of Bergen, Norway, might like to have a word about that. Each year around Christmastime, Bergen residents work together to build what they call the world’s largest Pepperkakebyen (“gingerbread city” in Norwegian), an elaborate construction with streets and lights and moving parts, fantasy buildings and replicas of actual structures consisting of about 2,000 delicious creations in all.
